Salaam Alaikum

I am studying engineering right now, but i plan to go to yemen before completing it. I live in N. America. Can you give me an idea of what jobs might be available to someone like me, since I don't have any professional degree? I was told that one can get teaching jobs in schools or home tuitions. what are the general requirements for jobs like these?

Please give me any suggestion u think important. for example if i should get some sort of training or certification that might help me get jobs in Yemen.

Hi, I like your blog very much. I'm trying to learn how to cook Yemen food :) I would love LOVE to have the recipe of bint al sahan. All the recipes I've found online have not worked for me. Some people tell me that eggs should not be included.

Hi,

I just wanted to say that this is a great site for people thinking about moving to Sana'a, Yemen. I am currently thinking about moving there and this has really helped me.
Could you answer a few question for me?? food costs?? my wife and i both love cooking and we always cook for our 2 young children, what would be an expensive month for you in terms of food shopping??
Kindergartens for a K1 child?? what are they like.

Again thank you for this great site.

Kind regards

Some calling programs/apps are blocked, or at least there were. But at the internet cafe I go to (and others) I see people talking via internet and I do see Skype on the desktops so that may be what they are using.

I am not familiar with the iphone. If it takes regular sim cards, I would imagine it would work here, but Allahu ilm. Sorry I don't have more info.
But on the same note, despite the common belief that Yemen is behind the times, it really is very modern here. (Just be prepared to buy one if you had to, smile).

Ok, wait a minute, went googling and found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXNh1KPMouA
So there may be a problem with using them here, Allahu ilm. (I didn't view the video and there may be some shadiness going on there, but that was the only thing I can find on the topic.)
Again, you may just have to wait til you come to really see what's up.

Black is beautiful. LOL. Well, I guess maybe not for everyone. But in the last comment, I mentioned that although you may see sisters in other colors from time to time, you will stick out wearing anything but black (except for maybe wearing a dark blue/brown).

I don't think you will be given a hard time for wearing other colors, but you may get some stares just because you stick out.

Honestly, you will definitely feel out of place without an overgarment here and probably if you don't wear black. When people see women here going out, they refer to it as a "sea of black." You will see women in other colors as well, but that's a small, small minority.

The majority of women wear black overgarments, hijaab AND niqaab.

You will see women without a niqaab here (but they are the minority) and I have seen foreigners without hijaab (some do wear at least an overgarment out of respect (funny thing is they don't usually wear a scarf, which to me is only half making an effort to be respectful, no offense). I have seen maybe a few native Yemenis (well, at least Arabi, can't really say if they were Yemeni) in jeans, but that's rare.
